FAQ
How many hours do current members need to complete to remain in good
status?
Current NJHS members need to complete 3 hours per QUARTER. Hours completed in the summer will not be accepted unless prior approval was given. If a member earns more than 3 hours in a quarter, the overage hours MAY NOT be applied to subsequent quarters.
How many meetings should current members attend?
Current members should attend as many meetings as possible, however, a minimum of 6
meetings per semester (meeting twice per month) is required to remain in good standing.
What is the GPA that current members must maintain?
See "Membership Requirement" page
What happens when a member does not meet the GPA requirement one six weeks?
Any NJHS members who fall below the solid 3.75 GPA during a grading period will be placed on probation. That member will not be considered an active member until the following grading period if he/she brings the GPA up to 3.75. A member may be placed on probation twice and the third time he/she is below the required grade, the member will be considered for permanent dismissal from NJHS.
What happens if a member is permanently dismissed from NJHS?
That student is no longer a member of NJHS and cannot be inducted into NJHS again.
However, dismissal from NJHS has no bearing on whether a student can qualify for NHS in high school.
Do the probation periods have to be back-to-back in order to be dismissed?
No, a member may be placed on probation twice (either back-to-back or not) and the
third time they fall below the required GPA (no matter when), they will be considered for permanent dismissal.
Is failure to maintain a 3.75 GPA the only way a member can be dismissed?
No, a member can be dismissed for many other reasons. A member must fulfill 3 hours of
community service per grading period. Failure to do this will result in dismissal. Members are also required to attend a minimum of 3 meetings per semester- failure to do so will result in dismissal. Lastly, the Faculty Council can dismiss any member that they feel is not a good role model in leadership, citizenship, character, or service. Also, failure to follow school and district
rules can result in probation and/or permanent dismissal from NJHS. See the "Membership Requirement" page for more information.
